We can’t get enough of matcha!

You don't have to be part of the wellness community to know about matcha tea. Matcha has been growing in popularity, but we only really learned about its true benefits since teaming up with the awesome Teapigs to promote the super-tea in May. (Watch this space, big reveal coming soon!)

Here’s the best health facts we've found out about matcha to get you acquainted with the oddly-coloured drink - 7 awesome benefits of the tea we love to shout about!

1. Enhances Brain Function, Memory, Concentration

The consumption of matcha tea will boost your brain power through L-Theanine, which helps increase focus and concentration. It is also key in the production of dopamine and seratonin - on top of everything else, these also help your mood and concentration!

2. Energizes the body

Again thanks to the L-Theanine, which helps balance caffeine in the body, matcha energizes you and keeps your energy levels constant. Unlike other caffeine drinks, however, it won't leave you jittery, nervous or with a high heart rate.

3. Keeps you calm and relaxed

In that same line of thought, L-Theanine gives you calm focused energy, but does not make you sleepy. As it helps your energy stay constant, it won’t let you have significant drowsy dips or spikes of tension during the day!

4. Supplies you with lots of vitamins

Matcha has high quantities of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium, selenium, among other healthy vitamins and minerals. Matcha has lots of positive effects, including lowering cholesterol and blood sugar.

5. Has lots of antioxidants too...

Matcha contains catechins, which will boost your overall health and strengthen the immune system. Because it is made of ground up tea leaves, matcha contains an higher concentration of antioxidants, times higher than regular green tea, spinach or dark chocolate. The benefits of antioxidants are endless: from having better skin, to boosting your immune system and aiding disease prevention.

6. ... So it’s a natural detoxifier!

The one everyone wants to know about! Detoxing is ‘in’ at the moment, but drinking matcha is a more natural way of detoxing without restricting yourself by going on a ‘cleanse’. It contains high levels of chlorophyll, giving it both its vibrant green colour and its detoxifying qualities.

7. Boosts your metabolism

Or as people like to say, it ‘helps you lose weight’. Now as much as we’d never tell you to lose weight unless you really wanted to, matcha can give you that perfect extra boost to kick off your morning metabolism and get your body going!

Are those enough health benefits for you? We’re definitely convinced! If you’re still on the fence, then consider this final factor: matcha is absolutely delicious! Even if you’re not a fan of the wellness trend, flavour is certainly not something you can miss out on, especially considering how much cheaper making the magical green tea can be at home!
